More About Janet:
What is a great question to warm up the focus group?
I like the questions that seem to come out of left field and catch the participant thinking, “Hey, this moderator is interested in my life!” and also, “I maybe have something in common with other members in the group.” For online or in person groups with multiple strangers interacting simultaneously, it is super important to find some common bonds (other than the fact that they all answered in a similar way in their screener concerning the specific product or service being studied). So, my go-tos would be something like, “What is the weirdest/strangest thing you saw, heard or did this week?” – or “What is your favorite material object that you already own?”
